This update seems to have fixed the video capture issue and left me with another. Now Google play store wil not update apps. I keep getting error code 506. Seems this is a common problem also. I have deleted cache and data from Google play and services. Restarted the phone ovov and over. Unmounted the memory card and all other steps suggested when searching for this issue. Any other ideas please sony?
I wasn't aware that you could still reliably run applications from an SD card in Oreo. Is there a particular reason why you must have the apps on the SD card instead of internal memory?
The apps simply will not update if they are stored on SD card.
The reason/solution is unknown.
Most apps, with the exception of certain games, don't take up much space. Have you considered storing them in the internal memory instead?
I'm on 32.4.A.1.54 on a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and have recently just started getting this exact issue.
Is there any solution? Besides moving every, single app to the device, update, then move it back again? This is tedious as I have loads!
I'm unsure what happened, just one day it decided to not update SD card apps anymore.
Saying "Store everything on the device then" is NOT a solution, nor does everyone have space for this. Why the heck do you think we're using the SD card in the first place? Spesh since I have a 64GB one, why would I not want to use it..
You describe exactly what I've started to see for the last week or so (including burning through 4G data despite being set to only update over wifi). I'm on the same update. I've moved everything to internal memory and the apps updated successfully. Something was obviously broken for this to start now.
I have reported this problem to Sony, and typically got a generic response of "some apps don't work or update on SD card".
Of course this issue is ALL apps, and only recently. This seems to be affecting at least the X and Z series devices.
Please ALL who are having this issue, E-MAIL Sony at the contact us link on this site, stating your Android version and device. We obviously need this looking into.
I have a Sony Z5 on 32.4.A.1.54 and have the same thing happening.
Moving applications from external to internal storage each time is annoying and almost fills the internal storage.
I've tried the normal things including trying a reboot just before an update to clear out any possible issue build up.
Sony,
Why have you forsaken your loyal customers on this one?
Thankyou Syncr0s. I have e-mailed Sony Support once again about this issue. Hopefully I get something more useful back than just "Repair your phone using PC Companion" again. I bet they'll tell me to factory re-set this time..
We know that the problem is in the LATEST version of Google Play store, where there's some incompatability with Sony's version of Android on these phones, since Uninstalling Updates to Google Play itself temporarily resolves the problem (till it updates itself again).
I have found at least FIVE threads on these forums so far, across X and Z range devices, where many people are encountering this EXACT problem. There's probably even more, but it's hard to find with this forum structure.
This started about a month ago I believe, likely whenever the last version of the Play store came out.
Same issue as Supernaut here, apps on the sd card have been continually trying to download and munched through over 2GB of data.
Apps on phone memory updated no problem, and same as everyone else when I move to phone memory, update and move back to SD card there are no problems.
Thanks Roger.
All of you encountering this issue, PLEASE report it to Sony Support directly. It isn't going to fix itself, and they'll probably only bother looking if multiple users report it.
Of course you'll go through the usual buffer of "Oh it's probably the apps. oh it's probably the SD card, repair your device" etc as I am (even after directly linking 5 threads on here, all with the same issue). However this is the only way to get it looked at and resolved.
Even if you move the apps to the device, update and then move back, you'll have to do it all over again every time each app needs an update.
Obviously something changed in Google Play, that is now incompatible with Sony's Android. I can only find THIS specific issue here on these forums.
