MHL cable does not work with Xperia x. Same is true for screen mirroring with Samsung smart tv

Unfortunately the X series does not support media transfer via MHL at all. You can see a list of all Xperia devices that supports media transfer using MHL here below.

If you want to display the content on your screen on another device I suggest that you try alternative methods such as Chromecast or Miracast.

Really disheartening to hear that a flagship phone lacks this feature, instead Sony should send out software patches as its not a hardware issue.
