Hi All,
I just got my new Xperia X phone, and after using it for a bit was rather shocked at the battery drain. When I got my phone, there were a lot of updates (about 3.5 hours of them), and by the end my battery had gone from 65% (out of the box charge) to about 24%. I assumed this was normal, as the phone was processing a lot of data, doing restarts, updating, downloading apps, etc.
After the updates I decided to do a full charge, and only using wi-fi (waiting for microsim card in mail so don't have data connection yet). Using the phone with only wifi, I was shocked at how little battery life I got from it.In fact, I was so surprised at how quickly the battey got drained, that I decided to do some testing.
First, I charged the phone to 100%, disconnected it soon after reaching 100%, and began testing. Please keep in mind that these tests are with the phone being 100% on standby the entire time (except for when I check the battery % twice a day).
Day 1: 10:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. 3% drain on standby all day (no Facebook, Messanger, or other apps connected and wi-fi off).
Day 2: Wi-fi on 9:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m. 3% battery drain on standby all day.
Day 3: Wi-fi on, Facebook connected 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. 5% drain.
Day 4: Wi-fi on, Facebook on, Messanger on, 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. 4% drain.
Day 5 Wi-fi on, facebook on, messanger on, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 4% drain.
These were my testing days. Again, the phone was left on standby and was not used at all (no recharges between each test, just mesured drain based on % drop).
So what do these tests tell me? Stand by battery life seems fantastic! Then why does my battery drop 3% after watching a 6 min youtube video at 50% screen brightness?
Why does my battery drop 3% after using the maps application for about 7 minutes?
This seems like a widely disproportionate battery drain.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is my phone defective, or is the battery just crappy when the phone is in use, and really good when it is on standby?
Edit: Just did another test, loosing roughly 14% of total battery life for every 60 min of youtube video watching with speakers on, volume max, and brightness at about 50%.
Again, can anyone verify if this is normal battery use for the phone?
The first mistake you did was installing all the updates together. Now connect your phone to computer and repair your software via pc companion.
If you have a Sony service center in your region, tell them to reinstall your software. This would solve your battery drain
Hi Shane,
I will give that a shot. Hopefully it improves battery life. Its not that my battery life is unmanagable (it lasts an entire day and gets me home with about 20%) but that's on moderate use at most. I get about 4 hours of screen on time before being down to 10%, which I think should be significantly more.
I am facing exactly similar issue. too much battery drain. 1 hour of facebook browsing n i loose 15 to 20% charge. screen brightness is extreme low. please post back if softwarerepair works
If you have a Sony service center near you, try that cause they install your software from zero level
Press your volume up and power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until your phone vibrates and reboots, this might clear the battery anomalies.
If that didn't work, then I'd suggest that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory. Don't forget to backup using Xperia Companion, but preferably without adding apps or settings to the backup (this is basically what the service center will do as @SHANE1 suggested).
Follow the steps given in blue links, and keep us updated.
The battery is my problem too. In five minutes of using it, on checking the forum it drops 1% of Battery power 14%-13% or its just because its low battery that's why its drains fast. I've been using my xperia x 2 weeks from now, just got new phone and I'm very happy
i have reinstalled the software... i hve also seen that if i turn off vibration for different notifications.. then the battery drain is lesser. also keeping the double tap to wake the screen feature turned off helps.
I would like to state a suggestion. the battery saver feature does not disable the background data and gps until i choose the maximum level. but at max level the phone performance is hindered a lot. so nobody prefers the max battery saver level. i suggest
1. the restriction of bckground data be brought starting from device perf prefered level (1st), n
2. restriction of gps be brought starting from the balanced battery saver level(2nd). also by default disable features like vibration, n screen double tap at this level.
the point is while battery is being saved, nobody wants there phone to lag which happens greatly at max level. i hope the above points would b useful and would be considered in further updates
i found this video..saying turn off scanning...it might work.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4RbxkmfNU8
