So 48hrs in and going from where I had a 2 day battery life through moderate use of the phone I am now down to 6 hours using the phone in exactly the same way.
Am not going through multiple settings changes as in my thoughts a software update should improve matters not kill the use of a device!
Anyone got any good news or do I wait for 8.1?
Great job Sony you have created a brick, you need to fix this QUICK
So I tried turning off the auto screen brigtness and it does seem to have had some effect, but the battery life is still nowhere near what it was. Like others, my phone is running hotter at times now. Is there a way to see whats running in this android version, perhaps to identify the culprit when it is hot? Also does anyone know if its possible to roll back to the old version?
Here is all the information you need to tackle the problem.
2 more things:
- have some patience after an update and give your phone a few days to settle.
- delete the latest installed apps, the drainer may be amongst those.
Thanks for the information. However I have not installed any apps recently and the update has been installed long enough to have settled. We know that it is down to some thing in the oreo update. Just need to find out what it is, and sony to fix it!
Maybe some good news, received notification of a system update which is the first since Oreo was installed nearly two weeks ago.
I don't want to speak too soon but the battery seems better although the phone still warms my hand.
Version number that seems to be an improvement is 34.4.A.2.19 which installed this morning 5/3
Hope this is some good news... On screen battery usage still quite high though.
Please let us know if it is still bad after this update (maybe update next week or somthing). I have an unbranded device in the Netherlands and I didn't even got the Oreo update, still on 7.1.1
But if it is as bad as the people here describe it I am doubting if I should update.
Fix it now Sony!!
I am running 8.0.0 (build 34.4.A.2.19) for more than a week now (Vodafone Netherlands). Battery runtime is the same or even better than 7.1.1. Perhaps you should look at the app consumption since the last full charge (Settings - Battery - Advanced). Perhaps this gives you a lead to the problem.
So yes, phone runs really hot, like 45 Celsius, battery drain is totally unacceptable. Leaving charger at 0600 (100%) and at lunch around 1100 (30%) with almost no use. Then using ultra battery saver, thinking it surely must disable the culprit that is causing the problem. Sadly no, at 1300 phone shuts down, still around the 45 Celsius hot.
I already ordered and will receive my Galaxy S8 tomorrow.
Eventually Sony will fix this, then maybe I will be able to sell this brick.. Running same build as most 34.4.A.2.19
The problem has to be in the update. The avarage consumption based on long time usage was around 12-13 percent, so the phone lasted around 7-8hours which got me through even a longer day.. with screen on doing casual things i do.. now it is 17percent and i get around 5 hours even though the data are off gps off bluetooth off and all the settings really moderated.. and temperature 45celsius is really high for im basically not doing anything...
Please solve this problem sony!!!!!!!
Hello. Yesterday I updated to Oreo, and right after that came new update(build 34.4.A.2.19) and I took it. With the first Oreo update I immediately noticed the problem with the light sensor making constant subtle changes. I took the new update right away without waiting at all, but it didn't fix the light sensor.
Haven't noticed greatly lower battery drain yet at least, but I am still worried about it. Sony should still look into it for sure. Also the light sensor problem is bad, since the auto adjusting brightness feature is really handy.
Other notes about this notorious Android 8.0.0 update is that the clock app doesn't let you change the sound volume for each alarm separately anymore and black theme is not nice, also the home button and the other buttons are much less nicer than they were.
First of all, I think Sony should be more careful with updates and not make them actually break stuff instead of fixing stuff. Second, there should be easily accessible change log about updates. Third, there should be option to go back to older software versions. So in other words, Sony please do something. People can easily lose trust in the brand, and that's bad.
