So 48hrs in and going from where I had a 2 day battery life through moderate use of the phone I am now down to 6 hours using the phone in exactly the same way.
Am not going through multiple settings changes as in my thoughts a software update should improve matters not kill the use of a device!
Anyone got any good news or do I wait for 8.1?
Great job Sony you have created a brick, you need to fix this QUICK
I just got the update today (in the Netherlands). My phone isn't branded but I think I have the KPN Mobile NL version listed here: https://xpericheck.com/device/F5321
My phone got really hot after the update. It also wanted to update a lot of apps so I just let it do its thing. After everything was down I closed all my apps and the temperature seemed to go down.
Will have to wait out to see if any battery draining effects occur.
Well I've been running Oreo and the subsequent 34.4.A.2.19 update for four days and the battery improved from the first Oreo update but lasts 11hrs before down to circa 5% with limited use. The battery is warm as soon as you start using the screen and you can watch the % drop as you use the phone with on screen time.
Dreadful update. Phone now not the two day hero it once was and should not be getting warm.
Very disappointed
Sort of solved for me..
I did install the gsam battery monitor and without rooting the phone I did the whole installing of drivers on pc and gave the app special permissions so I can see the advanced info on my phone.
The stock messaging ( sms ) app was a major culprit.
Kept cpu awake and used around 30% of all power used on the phone ( without ever openeing the messaging app. ) And keeping cpu awake uses even more power, so I guess its actually more than the 30% it uses.
So I uninstalled it and use a third party sms app now - and I got I would guestimate about 85% of prior to Android 8.0 battery life again.
Phone no longer runs hot.
Thats really useful info. Thanks. Will give it a try. Turning off the screen auto brightness and that might get close then. Ridiculous to have to go through all this though really. Sony should provide an update to fix. Does anyone know if you can go back to previous android version?
I got the update 2 days ago (to 34.4.A.2.19).
All went perfect. No issues at all (battery acts normal, all apps still work).
So Sony, great job !!!!
Update: The phone runs fine most of the time but I have experienced the phone becoming hot (and thus draining battery extra fast) two more times (third day since I updated). I rebooted and it worked correctly again.
If I this keeps happening I will try that sms app workaround.
What have Sony done to my phone???
I'm a very heavy user and would normally get a full day out of the phone.
I'm now charging it twice a day as well as over night.
Had the update to the update and that's done nothing.
Purposely not used the phone for 2 hours this morning and already down to 75%. Battery use shows 10min of screen on time and main drain is "phone idle".
Please fix or let me go back.
Updated my X compact yesterday (2 updates) Absolute no problems. Best power save since ever

Apparently some devices got a new version: 34.4.A.2.32

I hope they did some more fixes. I'm still on 34.4.A.2.19 though.
This morning I installed build 34.4.A.2.32 (Vodafone Netherlands). I haven't seen any changes. Phone is still performing great. According to several forums it seems to be a security update.
