Sim lock/network lock

HI I'm from the Philippines.. I received a Sony Xperia x performance from a relative who used to live in Japan. I put my sim but there's no signal, when I check the menu there's sim tool kit. So I want to ask if it is network lock?

@Batangletus

Usually phones in Japan are network branded

You can check the service menu

Hi @Batangletus,

On your current SIM card, do you have a PIN code? If yes, when starting the phone do you need to put in this PIN code in order to go further or are you not asked to enter the PIN code at all?

And when the phone is up and running, do you see a small SIM card icon in the status bar of your phone? It should be next to the battery percentage.

As @uliwooly mentioned, could you please check in the service menu of your phone and see if there is any [x] next to the for example, Network in the SIM lock menu?

To open the service menu, tap on the phone icon > type in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service info > SIM lock.

Hi @AD2505,

Have you received a code from your operator that you can use to unlock the SIM network lock on your phone? If you haven't I would recommend that you do at first since your operator is the one handling these codes.

Should you have more questions regarding this I would recommend that you get in contact with our Local support in Japan, since they are made specifically for that market and they will be able to provide you with further information.

Hi @Stephen3, welcome to our forum!

If you don't have any attempts left to unlock the network lock on your device, please get in touch with your Local support team and they will assist you further. They are the experts on your market/region and will be able to provide you with a much more detailed answer on how to proceed with this.

I hope that helps! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi,

I have a Sony SO-01J which I purchased from Docomo in Japan a little over 2 years ago.

On leaving Japan last week they gave me an unlock code, and told me I would be able to find the procedure online.

I purchased a new prepaid SIM from Telstra yesterday, put it in the phone as per the procedure I found.

However, I have had nowhere to actually enter the unlock code, and even though the SIM should be active, I am unable to connect to the network.

Please help!

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi @Frosty273 and welcome to our community!

There should be a screen asking you to enter the code when inserting the new SIM card from in your case Telstra (as long as it's activated). The screen should be very similar to the one you see when putting in your PIN code for the SIM card.

Could you please get back to me with a screenshot of how it looks in the service menu when checking if the device is actually locked to an operator? You can find the menu if you open up the application called "Phone" and type in the following, *#*#7378423#*#* > Service info > SIM lock.

Note that I'm not sure if there is anything else that is different as the devices purchased in Japan can be different from the Global versions.

Let me know if there has been any change and a screenshot would really help! Slightly_smiling_Face
