Android 9 volume

Android 9 volume

Just had the new update. Now though, the volume keys only alter the media volume, not the ring/notification volume. Only got the option to put ring into vibrate mode or have to go into the settings. Is there a way to change this as I can't find one?

Hi again everyone!

@Spendle, thank you for this information and that would mean that it's not forced and can be adjusted.

@Hezer, Yeah the "standard/stock" behaviour is to only control the media volume.

@Dooo, since the behaviour can't be changed in the settings of the device, but it can be done using a third party application, I think it was a great tip as users both in this thread and the threads for the other models are disappointed about the change in Android Pie and the third party application provides an alternative solution.

I don't know if there are other third party applications available directly in the Google Play store that changes the volume button behaviour in Android Pie, but you can always try and search for "Pie volume" or something similar. As always, applications downloaded from the Google Play store should be very safe to use, thanks to Google Play Protect!

I will as always continue to forward all the feedback from you guys! Slightly_smiling_Face

It's not solving a problem when you tell people that are missing a feature on their phone that they can't have it anymore. I used volume control

... I used ringtone volume control every day, sometimes I work in noisy  environments, sometimes quiet. After the pie update I have to go into settings each time. Every phone I have used for the last 27 years has had ringtone volume keys. If Sony don't want us to buy other brands they should not take away features.

When composing a long text message, checking through what you have typed, there are just 4 lines visible so lots and lots of scrolling. Is this a good idea? Does anyone at Sony still use a Sony phone?

Hi @Peteytee,

As I wrote previously in this thread, this is the standard behaviour in Android Pie, that you can only control the media volume.

If it is very important for you what volume is controlled by the volume up and down keys, there may be applications available in the Google Play store that can change the behaviour for you.

For me it's a great change, but I of course understand that not everyone is using their device the same way I do and they need to adjust the ring tone volume during their day (I only use do not disturb myself, so I don't have to adjust the volume).

This new behavior is really annoying. Please make it available in settings to change ring volume by default

Hi @garaboncias, sorry to hear that the new volume control in Android Pie does not suit you.

I will make sure to forward your feedback as well and you can always have a look in the Google Play store and see if there are any applications available that changes the behaviour when pressing the volume keys!

Have a great day!

The pie update pretty much ruined the phone for me.

1 the volume adjustment changes, forcing me to open a new menu and stopping whatever im doing is simply unacceptable, then playing a sample of the volume lvl is so annoying.

2. Removing my ability to change the tone for each individual notification, EVERYTHING sounds like im getting a text, work email, software update notifications, messages from my daugthers school message app, the preschool app, the regular apps, the games. i could go on they all sound the same and i cant change them.

3 WHY IN THE WORLD do google think i need my phone to play a notification when i set an alarm??? I am aware that i just activated an alarm i do not need it to tell me by playing what used to be my text tone

4 the camera app will often freeze if i access the camera app through the button on the side and make me unable to use the on screen button for taking a photo if the phone was locked.

5 the entire app control menu has been made unintuitive to use compared to the oreo version.

6. The overall feel of my phone is suddenly clumsy and stupid... Before it was fast, intuitive and easy to use

If i were givin the choice to go back to oreo i would do it without hesitation

It seem like you will be served in Android Q.

Let's hope so and see what the final outcome will be.
