Whatsapp images appear in my Album App, want to remove this folder

I'm attemnpting to remove a folder from being dispalyed with Album artwork, specifically the whatsapp images folder.  I have created an empty .nomedia file:-

/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images

But despite clearing data and cache for Album app and restarting the phone the images still appear.  Has anybody solved this problem?

You could open the album app > swipe left to right > folders > whatsapp > long press one > menu (top right corner) select all > menu > hide 

The downfall is that you will have to repeat this quite often.
