I really love sony, the phones are simply beautiful and the UI is amazing! I was considering buying a Z2 but users have reported having gaps between their screens and the metal covering on the sides, sony did tell them to get a waterproof test from a sony center but i want to know if anyone had the problem and got the test, was it still waterproof? Has sony fixed this in their new upcoming Z2 devices or is it still there? Should i get Z2 or not?

Out of interest, where do I find the batch code? I checked the box and About Phone in settings...
EDIT: I have 14W19 and gaps a described per this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2757544
I have the exact same gaps as in the gsmarena images. Is your device still waterproof? If you have the same gaps then this should help me.
Thanks
There will definately be gaps between the glass and the edges. This is to cater to the fact that some material like plastic and metal are better conductors of heat and expands. whithout any gap between the glass and edges, the glass have higher chance of breaking. And as explained by someone by Sony on another site I read a while back, these gap does not effect the waterproof capability of the phones. If you still doubt it, you can call yur local service centre to conduct a water test.
Unfortunately the Customer Service here is incompitent.
It's not just Sony, it's almost everyone.
Only a few retailers have good customer service (well, better than the others) but they aren't specialists.
I don't know if the device is still water proof or not since I haven't tried it. Waterproofing was never a feature for me anyway and like I said before, it seems pretty pointless when drops of water make the screen register inputs.
I have 14w17 batch and absolutely no probs, no gaps no decentered things and i can record more than 9 minutes of 4k video wit 27°C ambient temp too! Maybe i'm lucky?
Well I have one with gaps, will they replace it? Because these gaps caused my phone touch screen to go crazy and unreponsive after putting it underwater for the first time...

Hi, when you say'crazy & unresponsive' do you mean permanently or just when the screen is wet....if it is all the time then i'm afraid it sounds like the Z2 has had water ingression, you can try drying it out (do a search on the forum) but at the end of the day it would be best to either take it back to where you purchased it or your local Xperia Care Centre but insist on a VACUUM test......
Hi Alam, check out your other post...i left a reply there, a trip to your local Xperia Care Centre seems like your option but insist on the VACUUM TEST :smileysmileywink:
I have 14w28 Xperia Z2 model ,it has most of the built / hardware issues:
1) The gaps - mine gone crazy after putting it underwater for the first time, the screen touch isn't responding and keeps touch alone. That all is potentially because the water passed the gaps and entered inside the device which made the device non-waterproof and doesn't respond when I touch the screen (inaccessible), that is disappointing.
2) Inaccurate built - The front camera isn't in the very middle, it's moved towards the top as well as the flash and the rear facing camera...
3) Creeks - everytime I touch the screen I hear creek sounds coming out and especially on the top-right side of the screen.
4) Dirt stucks in gaps - The gaps on my xperia z2 are found all the way round (left ,right ,top ,bottom of the front side and the back side) ,for example my xperia z2 fell on dirt and some dirt is stuck and now I'm unable to remove it.
I have the latest software update and it was fine until I made a huge mistake and put it underwater for 2 minutes to clean it up eventhought some of the dirt stills there.
In short, all these issues mentioned above are the most common and they must be fixed by sony and if you have a phone with gaps don't test it by yourself, let your local support center test it for you .... Finally ,I would like to know what is the number (00w00) of the new models of the xperia z2 with fixed gaps because I'm intrested in replacement if I was lucky and I could do that.
-Thanks ,Alam.
