When i updated my smartphone to Marshmallow (...129) i had problem with SD card too. The only way which i tried and helped me is format SD card (straight in smartphone or PC). The same as i understand advised you Sony support. If you don't want to do that, it's yours decision, but i think there is no other way 
To do copy from SD card to computer and then format SD card is not so hard, so it's depend you... then question is one: why you can't format yours SD card?

As i siad format it's the only way to restore SD card, if you tried and still SD card is corrupted, i advise you just try to use other SD card. By the way which SD card you using?
For me worked format, so it's hard to say what you did with it
