Touch/Swipe Problem with Xperia neo V

I bought this phone on 26th February, 2012 and it was working fine till around March end and suddenly I started experiencing swipe issues:

1) At some occasions, when I recieved calls swipe/drag to right to accept the call didn't work. I assumed it could be a memory issue where I might have many processes running at the backgroud.

Till this problem spread to the different level:

2) Unlock swipe/drag option also started behaving the similar way as mentioned above but at this point I was sure that it has nothing to do with the memory issue since it happened even I restarted my phone.

3) It has increased more when I made an update to Icecream Sandwitch (ICS) version. The latest issues I am facing now are:

a) Pattern lock doesn't work effectively, I have to make 4-5 attempts to unlock it

b) If I put scroll lock (left to right drag function) instead of pattern (I noticed in ICS that they have made this option and pattern optional while in Gingerbread you had to perform both the functions to unlock phone) even then it is hard to unlock phone and I had to make few attempts to unlock it.

--- For resolution, I went to the service center where they made an update to the software (OS) but interestingly it took me back to Gingerbread from ICS however problem with Pattern and scroll unlock still persists.

Service center feels that it might be touch screen issue however I am not sure since this problem is occuring ONLY at Home screen or you can say at the Unlock time or sometimes while receiving/accepting the calls. It does work perfectly, if I go to Settings > Localion and Security > Screen Unlock > Change Screen Lock > Confirm Saved Pattern. It takes the pattern input at this level with no issues at all.

I am scheduled to go to service center today as they said it has to be sent for touch screen replacement / further testing today however wanted to see if it is really a hardware issue or a software issue.

PS: Since my phone OS is reinstalled by service center hence it has very less softwares installed mostly delivered hence software conflicts should not be the possibility.

I found below discussion in forum which has similar issue discussed but it has some software update which I am not very comfortable with unless service center does it for me. Below are the discussion details:

Hi im sharing my experience here about this problem.

I bought my phone on january ,after two months i faced this issue..then i removed my scratchguard and my phone became normal..but i still face the call attending problem in my phone sometimes.whenever i have this problem i will wipe my screen with a cotton cloth and it will respond to touch normally..i always wipe my screen with a cloth when i find more fingerprints in it..my suggestion is wipe your screen with a cotton cloth often since its a touch screen it gets exposed to our sweat more..and another issue is avoid using screen guard because the glue behind some screenguards affects the screen much when it gets old..hope this might be useful to some..

another problem that causes touch screen failure is putting them in tight jeans pats.

Some of my friends suggested me the same.

I am carrying with hands these days. If I am on bike, using mw600 and putting my phone in mybag.

I just checked my status online at http://sein.servicetrack.in/ and it finally reflect the message informing that my unit is ready for delivery. Kindly arrange to collect

I tried to call the service center (I would rather call it collection center) but they didn't respond so will call them back and will accordingly plan to go there to collect my unit.

I will then be able to tell on the repair status.

Tip:

As in the other message you said you have submitted your unit for repair. From my experience, I would suggest you to call customer care at 1-800-3000-2800 after 4-5 days to get the status on repair otherwise process might be slow. So keep pushing them for early resolution/return of the handset otherwise they will sleep over the issue.

It's funny but true that when you will call them for the repair status they will generate a ticket number with a turnaround time of 3 days so you have to keep waiting just to get the status update on the repair.

Sorry dear but you need to wait for some more time to get the final update on this.

I called service/collection center where I submitted my phone and I got a surprising response that they have been asked by Sony to close their services hence I called customer care to get the status on it.

I got to discuss the issue with their floor supervisor who informed me that they will track the location of my handset and will call me back.

Initially, they were expecting me to wait for 3 more days to get the handset but when I spoke to the supervisor then above assurance I got from them.

WIth my experience with Sony and their customer service since I submitted my phone I am sure it will take time for me to get the handset back however I am concerned about my phone now.

I have collected my handset today.

I am so disappointed with Sony as a brand. THEIR SERVICE IS PATHETIC.

I tested my phone right there are the service center (collection center) and it still had the same issue. I immediately called customer care and this guy asked me to explain the problem again and asked the frustrating questions as when I bought this phone blah blah... as if from the workorder number they can't trace these basic details.

Anyways, this customer care guy asked me to sumbit my phone to the same service center so that technical team can identify if it is a hardware issue or something else.

HELLO!!! why did I submit my phone on 30th April???

They claim that they have changed the display and seems like they don't care to test if issue is resolved or not. They just sent it back and expected client to test it and resubmit it if it is not resolved and phone is gone for another 10-15 days with no surety if it would be resolved or I would again be in the same situation.

This could be one of the substandard service one could ever expect from Sony.

After my argument with the customer care guy I finally decided not to submit my phone again and instead approach their corporate office which is in my city.

If that would not help then I will have to file a case with consumer court as a final resort.

I am in a no mood to spend much time pursuing this issue with Sony as I now find it waste of time. I would rather ask them to replace this handset with a new one or refund my money back.

Better to buy a Chinese or low cost phone atleast you would know that you don't have anyone for support on issues.

I apologize if I sound rude on my statements but hope you understand.

I had the same problem. I took my phone to the assistance service, when I´ve got there to retrieve my phone, the problem was the same. They just said they reinstalled the software. I tested in front of the receptionist and then they gave me another paper to the same problem but now my device is in Sony manufacturer to be repaired. I´m wating for 15 days and it still didn´t come back.

Welcome to the world of frustration!!!

I hope NOT but you might be at the same situation as mine since after software update didn't resolve the issue they took my handset for further repair and I got my handset back after almost 15 days and issue still persists.

I called customer care to explain me what excatly has been changed/done to my device and why issue still persists.

They didn't give any satisfactory response for the first question however for the second question they asked me to resubmit my device to service center (collection point) and they will look into the issue.

What a stupidity, if they didn't bother to resolve the issue in first instance how would I be confident that they would resolve the issue now.

I am now working on demanding a new set as a replacement instead of loosing my time/energy on PATHETIC customer care service.

I had the same problem a few days ago. After several soft resets, I have decided to do a hard reset through PCC, but nothing happened. The issue subsisted.

Yesterday, after a change in a setting that theoredicly had nothing to do with this issue, out of nowhere the slider lag problem was solved!!!

My conclusion is that it is definitely not a hardware issue, rather a provable software/firmware incompatibility that I can only assume to be related with that specific configuration, or with other generic configuration.

Have a look here (http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/193609#) to see what happened to me.

I hope this can be of use to all the other users with the same problem.

I am not a technician, but I will gladly try to help you guys in any further information!
