I have read a previous thread regarding the issue of "Internet download failed because content size exceeds system memory limit". It appears to remain unresolved, however. It occurred first yesterday for me. I had no previous experience of the problem. I could not put a finger on it, either: first, a one-hour programme would not play, while a half-hour programme seemed OK. I went to a one-hour programme from last Saturday that my wife had watched and that was OK. Returning to it later, the message appeared. I assume repeated playing, or attempts to play, do not accumulate to cause a memory problem.
I have a problem with my Sony DVD recorder, too, regarding "D---" that has occurred recently, too, about which I shall create another post.
My TV is Sony KDL-32W705BBU, purchased in 2014 and my DVD recorder is Sony RDR-HXD870, purchased in 2007.
I too have the ..download exceeded memory.. error on a 2015 KDL-50W829B.
iPlayer has work sporadically for the last 5 years - good when it works,frustrating when it fails.
There are a myriad of posts about this, some several years old, so I guess Sony are not interested.
Pity, as the TV picture is very good.
Sony - are you listening at all ?
Have you checked that the TV has the latest software version? If you've done that already, I'd make sure that the app list is up to date as well.
I have suffered this message for 12 month and appalled that Sony and/or BBC cannot solve this. Beggars belief that it’s not compatible.
I have a Sony Bravia KD:-32W705B Tv and we have been having problems with BBCiPlayer "internet download failed because content size exceeds system memory" and now e don't even get that far. I have taken all the actions Sony have advised including powering down the LAN and putting the TV back to factory settings (which did give me brief access to the iPlayer but failed as soon as I started navigating). The Bravia has no problem with Netflix, YouTube or any other app and all other "smart" devices in the house can access iPlayer with no problem; the TV is on a wired LAN and have a 200 internet download speed. Their is nothing else wrong with our TV so I am not happy to replace it particularly as the 32" smart TVs are now no longer available. We have been happy with Sony products in the past (we have three currently) but I am considering replacing with a Panasonic simply because of the iPlayer problem.
I have the identical issue with my Sony Bravia KDL-42W705B, broadband checked and is good, Netflix, and Amazon Prime video plus other streaming services such as YouTube work without issue.
The BBC iPlayer has become almost unusable as it crashes sometimes even when loading up the Home screen.
I have never figured out how to upload or add other TV catch up Apps (such as ITV-Hub) so just the BBC iPlayer App comes as standard (all the other Sony supplied Apps are mostly junk).
Also hugely disappointed that i cannot mirror my iPhone or iPad direct to the screen wirelessly ??
If I watch YouTube on my iPad, I have the option to sync it with the TV, so why cannot Sony support this for all Apps ??
I think the problem is caused by how that version of iPlayer manages streaming data. My guess is somewhere along the line it was changed in a way by BBC. If that happened to accommodate other devices that feature the service, I don't think Sony can do anything about it.
The only workaround I know of is power cycling the TV, then going straight to iPlayer and starting the content you want to watch, with minimal amount of browsing.
