I have the same problem on my X Compact that I bought in May 2017.
I sent it two times to Sony Assistance here in Italy and both times when it came back the problem was still there.
I discovered that if I close the secondary microphone with my finger during the phone call (the microphone on the top of the phone) the problem doesn't occur.
Therefore I think it has to do with the noise cancellation microphone that wotrks "too well" and suppress all sounds .. ?
During these 2 years I was able to use the phone because I put some tape to close the upper microphone (lol) but now that I want to sell this phone to change it this is a big issue.
I don't know but it might be a software problem, because in my case they also changed the "motherboard" (so they said) and the problem was still there.
Very disappointed about this issue ....
My wife and I both have Sony Xperia XA2 phones. Her phone now has the problem where nobody can hear her during regular voice calls. Here's what we tried so far
We're now using her SIM in our old Samsung to make voice calls. (Maybe I should have stuck with Samsung for the new phone!) The frustrating part is she'd just finished a regular phone call with no issues literally 2 minutes before the problem happened. With the testing above, we're confident about the following:
Based on the frequency and variety of reports, I take it that cell provider and location are not issues either. So I guess can look forward to my phone suddenly contracting this issue...
Hi @RumiM
I looked around and found this thread.
Maybe it has some usefull information.
You tried a lot.
I didn't see safe mode in your list plus that you can try this one:
Settings->apps¬ifications->(see all apss)-> 3 dots upper right corner-> show system ->scroll to phone-> tap storage -> tap Storage-> clear cache & clear data
Disabling "OK, Google" fixed it. Voice calls work fine again with her SIM on her phone on the same network.
Don't know how exactly it got turned on in the first place. I'm pretty sure I disabled that on both our phones when we first got it.
Rough steps:
It'd be nice if Xperia Assistant could do something like "I noticed OK Google was turned on. Did you mean to totally lose your ability for people to hear you on voice calls? Click No if you want to make calls normally again..."
I think I found the problem. At least in my case.
I am using Xperia X Compact almost 3 years.
I had always this microphone issue and somehow I managed the handle calls like yelling or calling from other apps. (Other apps didn't solve the problem of course, nothing changed actually. )
Anyway then I discovered that in this phone top and bottom microphones works wrong. Normally bottom microphone is primary microphone and should send your voice during call and top microphone exists for removing outsource noise to clear your voice when you are talking someone on the phone. So they are doing each other jobs but not the correct ones and the software blocking your actual voice that come from bottom as a outsource noise and sending the outsource noise as an actual voice to other person that you are dialing.
I run so many tests for this (even Developer tests). I am sure that's my problem. However I do not know how to fix it without root. So any help would be great. Thanks.
I have had the same problem. New phone. Can't hear a thing. When I can hear person on other end can't hear me. Have to use on speaker. Waste of money. Not fit for purpose. O so angry.
3 pages of people with the same problem. Another year later, and have to say, I am having the same issue. People can only hear me if I am on speaker, which means everyone gets to hear the conversation.
Has anyone had this issue fixed? If its a hardware issue I'm guessing nothing can be done. How dissappointing.
