Is the Xperia X still worth getting now it's been out for a year? I don't really do any gaming just mainly social media and browsing. I'm sure the 650 is plenty powerful enough for me even if I did start playing more games. My biggest concern is how long it will be updated for, I'm currently using an Xperia Z3, would I notice any decline in terms of performance and battery life?
I own mine nearly two years now.
It has proven itself a reliable allrounder.
The French Police has chosen Xperia X.
Except for the heating up when taking videos at 60fps, it didn't have any hickups.
Battery life is worse than Z3, performance is slightly better, WiFi reach is slightly less, screen brightness will be a positive surprise for you.
You will get regular security updates, although it isn't clear when that will stop.
One thing is certain, it won't get Android Pie.
If you want to step up to Android Pie you should wait for an opportunity to buy at least XZ1 or XA2.
Price/performance for Xperia X is quite good these days.
I've been using it since 2 years ago. And, still very happy with the phone. Very reliable. But, I don't think the OS will be upgraded to Android Pie.
Pros:
Compact design.
The headphone jack.
Capable Camera.
Cons:
Battery life just OK.
I am using my X F5122 since 2016 now and purchased another one for my sister a few months ago. Totally worth it and I a manged to buy it for half the price of 2016, this year!!
Xperia X is still Worth Buying. I was using it from so many days and it is working awesome.
As per your question, you said you need it only for browsing. So it is more than enough.
has any one tried running nox on their experia?

I had to lower the core numbers because of slow running time on nox on my Xperia.
Just don't buy this phone. Battery life is totally terrible it comes from 9am to 4.30 pm exactly. Just imagine how I feel while working or on a business call. Buy something good. This phone is now outdated. Buy a latest model atleast you'll get support for 2 years for sure.
I do not disagree with you.
Battery life isn't paramount.
However it is and will be as reliable device.
Personally I like last year's model best.
Good price and one more year of updates.
