New phone, headphone jack only works with sony earphones from the box

I received my phone 4 days ago, I wanted to listen music with my own (good) headphones, but sony doesn't detect it, I plug the sony headphones in, it works... I tried using an extender with the sony earphones connected to it, and my phone doesn't detect anything...

The third-party (non-Sony) earphones/headphones you're trying to use, do they work with other devices just fine? Also have a look at the plug - does it have three rings or two rings?

Three rings means it has headset (i.e. with a microphone) support; two it has no headset (i.e. with a microphone) support and sometimes this can cause problems with smartphones... Not often, but sometimes.

You could also try putting your smartphone into Safe Mode and seeing if your third-party earphones/headphones work...

My earphones (and the extender) have 3 rings, it works on my PC and my old phone (Huawei P8 Lite). I tried connecting the earphones when safe mode was enabled, but it didn't work.

Just received my extender with 2 rings, solved the issue.
