Build Number

Sony has 23.0.A.2.93 as their latest update.... My device is 23.0.A.2.98

I'm just curious as to what differences there may be, my father in law has a Z3 too and is .93 i've noticed that i have a couple settings that he doesn't have, one being rich communication, not sure what the other one was. I'm in the UK(him too), not sure if that makes a difference from other countries software.

No - There is a standard firmware and then your network may say we want to add this app and they do it - They may also add or remove a feature because it doesn't work with there network settings - Then once done they will bundle it back up and give it back to Sony and then authorise it's release, But bear in mind for Generic owners all networks especially in the UK have to authorise the firmware before it can be released, So if one network say's no then this gives us Generic owners a longer waiting time for it's release

The difference could be due to network modified software and or country differences

I thought my network would be the difference, but does that mean my network can provide more up to date versions of software than sony can?

Ahhhh, thsnks for that Slightly_smiling_Face I thought the builds would be the same but with minor tweaks through the network, had no idea that the entire build number is basically from the network

Kind of right - Sony will have a build number for world distribution then lets say Vodafone modify it to such a degree that it's not seen as Sony stock due to some modifications then that Vodafone build or variation will be given a different build number which is just a way of letting others know that this is a network modified firmware
