Hi all
I've seen posts on xda-dev (11 dec 2014) about a new z3 compact firmware build (23.0.1.A.5.77).
The last OTA update I had (in england) was 23.0.A.2.105
Sony reports latest firmware to be 23.0.A.2.93 (released 22 sep 2014) lol
Is 23.0.1.A.5.77 region specific (i.e. non-UK)?
Thanks,
Gary

hi all
firmware update 23.0.1.A.5.77 rolled out (to me at least - O2 UK) last night / this morning.
It's a big update (size-wise). I was instructed that you can only install via PC / using PC companion (or the mac equivalent).
I'd estimate the image size to be in excess of 1GB (going on how long it took to download).
Update was seemless though using PC companion.
Only thing I had to do was put USB connectivity back to MTP.
There was a reference to patching / updating NFC (during the firmware update) but it also "optimised" 78 apps on my phone.
Oh... and a new google app appeared called "keep".
An 'official' changelog would be hugely useful.
I've only found this:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/12/11/new-update-23-0-1-a-5-77-rolling-for-xperia-z3-and-z3-compact/
and this thread on xda-dev:

The UK is the only country to have the .105 firmware and some of the countries that have .77 never had the .105 and went straight from either the .93 or .98 firmware, So I will assume that this new firmware is country specific, You could if you really want it manually Flash your device but I see no need currently
My z3c just got a major update through the computer. I was really hoping it's was Lollipop but it wasn't.
Anyway, where I can read whats new in this update? Cause it seems that nothing has really changed. Fps in the camera preview still **bleep**, at least.

thanks Thommo.
Just gagging for an update
I agree regarding not updating to a different country's firmware (doesn't sound sensible really). I'd have thought Sony would have pushed the update out here, if there was a need.
Having said that, is there somewhere which details changelogs for new firmware?
Also, if I recall correctly, I saw posts on here about the phone's wifi misbehaving. I've personally found my wifi speed to not be as good as I think it should be. What I mean by this is that an app might send some data and there'll just be an inexplicable delay in transfer (almost like the wifi had gone to sleep - only lasts a few seconds though). I have set the phone so the wifi disables when in sleep mode... but that surely shouldn't affect its performance while the phone is active. The wifi symbol is visible during these times. I've got no power management / power saving measures (e.g. stamina mode) active.
I guess i was additionally vaguely hoping that we'd see some camera patches and/or some kind of resolution regarding loss of DRM keys when rooting.
I'd imagine that Sony will be beavering away with the lollipop update now, so maybe we'll see something wonderful (i.e. no loss of camera functionality when rooting).
Cheers,
Gazza
@Randy05Lollipop won't be released untill 2015 and judging by Sony's blog it will be sometime in the 1st few months

I would avoid the update until further notice. I just updated my firmware and the battery life is atrocious. I'm not even getting a day of battery life anymore.
I just updated my phone.
Are there any release notes for this update? I'm hoping they fixed the issue with the location based WiFi not working reliably.
Thanks
I'm sure I read on here that it has a camera bug fix included but don't quote me on that
