Loss of photo shape transfering to pc

When I upload pics from my Sony DSC HX20V to my pc they become squeezed widthways. Most annoying of all is a round shape like a full moon which becomes a vertical oval when uploaded to PlayMemoriesHome. Can anyone suggest a cure?

Hello Milon89 - Welcome to the Sony Forums

To see whether there is something within PlayMemories Home that may be causing this, have you tried connecting the camera to a PC (or inserting the memory card into a USB reader) and then using Windows Explorer to drag and drop the image files manually to your computer. If they appear correctly when transferred manually, this may be the best option going forward.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi,

Tried that Simon, it seems that as soon as the pics leave the camera they become distorted. Guess I'll try to contact Sony again, but that can be a tough road! Thanks again for your input.

The moon appears to be perfectly spherical to me...

Have you checked your PC's montor aspect ratio to see if that's the source of the problem?

Cheers

Mick2011  I love you! (In a platonic, non-threatening, totally grateful type of way)

I googled  'full moon' and received a vertical oval just like my own, which obviously (der!) points to a screen problem. Only slightly lateral thinking, but I just never went there. Anyway, resuming factory settings on the monitor doesn't fix it, but I'll get there eventually.

Cheers again!

There is a nice utility from monitor manufacture EIZO available, which tests all kinds of characteristics of the display including geometry/distorsion. It is freeware and can be downloaded from here (WIN): http://www.eizo.de/pool/_de_/files/support/Eizo_Monitortest.zip
